Ogimet newsOct-03-2011Some pages have changed their look, mainly the html tables. The size of default fonts has decreased to 11px. The aim of these changes is to compact the information for smaller screens. With respect gsynres summaries, now include links to decoded synop reports tables. In these new tables there are links to show verbosely the decoded synops details with the aid of decomet Jun-28-2011As solicited by some users, the limit of rows per query in getsynop, getmetar and getbuoy has been raised from 50000 to 100000 Jun-13-2011A new special area for GFS weather maps has been added. It is Iceland. In addition, now the surface maps show ground altitude color and shadows and also an estimation of ice and/or snow cover(with the aid of ice fraction an albedo fields from model) Jun-08-2011As suggested by users, getsynop and getmetar now accepts no indexes, so you can get all the world reports within a time interval. In addition you can also select ship reports in getsynop. Also getbuoy has been created to get buoy reports Jun-07-2011A new server is now working. Nice change. Queries are now a lot faster. The new server is using a 80 GB SSD disk for more used tables May-31-2011For those users asking what will happen when start the replacement from synop to BUFR format, we are just now preparing the transition. We will say more about that during next weeks May-27-2011While recovering the server, a lost mailbox plenty of mail from ogimet users has found. Some mail are almost a year old. We will replying them in next days. Sorry by this delay May-26-2011Murphy in action. At 13:25 UTC the server crashed, just when I was out without net connection. I recovered it in the morning of 27-May when back home. This incident speed up the migration to a new server, contributed again by meteored January-20-2011We present a new meteogram class called Gramet. It shows foreecasted weather conditions in a site or along a given route. You can see a user guide here. You can request aeronautical gramet in this form and with more general propose here March-29-2010For users geting synops and metar reports using scripts we've wrote getsynop and getmetar. It will create files with reports in CSV format (plain text) without html tags. March-29-2010Again the main ogimet server has been hosted in a new dedicated server contributed by meteored. This new server is plenty of CPU and memory so it is expected to be more responsive. Some new funcionalities are possible. Now you can pick METAR reports since January 1 2005. January-19-2009Main ogimet server has been hosted in a dedicated server contributed by meteored which is the best general meteorology site in spanish language. Granada University server is working as a backup October-20-2008Ogimet server is now hosted in the Department of Histology of Granada University. Thanks to Dr. José Manuel García López for this support. Hope this will make Ogimet responses faster. October-1-2008Data base for SYNOP (FM 12-XI), SHIP (FM 13-XI), SYNOP-MOBIL(FM 14-XI) and BUOY (FM 18-XII) has been revised and increased. Now data is accesible online since 1 January 2000 till now. Ogimet database has surpassed 350 million reports. We are also working in extending available upper air data August-29-2008Ogimet now can display CLIMAT report monthly summaries WMO(FM71-XI) decoded and undecoded. They are usualy available during fisrt 10 days in next month. Not all countries usually release CLIMAT reports and also the included sections may differ from a place to another February-24-2008Two new special zones for GFS forecast maps has been included. They are China and India, the two most populated countries in the world January-01-2008Since January 1 at 00 UTC eumetsat has changed the disemination scheme for its free real-time METEOSAT images. Because of this, the ogimet METEOSAT products could not be online till today January 4th. During these days we've adpating the software to new eutmetsat products. AT the moment, we use the MPE product, which combine the infrared 10.8 image with a precipitaction estimation. In addition, we have now an image every 15 minutes September-01-2007Since September 1st Ogimet begun to store in its database buoys reports (BUOY FM-18, you can get all WMO codes from this WMO page). All the meteorological air data from these reports also are plotted in synop navigator page March-29-2007After some aditional work, we finally included a GSOD data navigator. You can see over maps the data from NOAA Global Summary Of the Day (GSOD). You can move around the world and over the time March-21-2007To celebrate the spring season (fall in Southern Hemisphere) ogimet data base has increased a bit. We've included data derived from NOAA Global Summary Of the Day (GSOD).. This data include daily summaries since 1929, but only after 1971 the number of station is really important around the world. Remember that those data are under some use restrictions as they are affected by WMO Resolution 40. You can select GSOD derived tables from here March-09-2007New Zealand zone has been included in special zone list after petition of some users March-06-2007On friday March 2nd, ogimet server crashed again. This time was the graphic card and a memory module. Till today at 15 UTC it could not be repaired. Because of that, ogimet was inoperative during these days. The basic report data was collected also by other systems, so there is no lack of data in Database. February-14-2007After some proofs and tries, in surface forecast maps of GFS special zones we now plot the contours of aeras where precipitation is snow. We will see if this also can be extented to the rest of maps without complicate its interpretation February-11-2007Because of its interest, the zone Antarctic Peninsula has been included into special zone list of maps to be plotted with GFS model forecasts. You can pick it from here. With this new addition, there are eleven zones with special interest for our users February-05-2007Since GFS modeel run at Feb-05-2007 00 UTC, maps for H+108, H+132, H156 and H+180 has been included. As result, there are mapas from H+12 till H+72 every 6 hours, and from H+72 till H+180 every 12 hours. The access table has been modified according to new entries In pages with animated loops of forecasts, we can now switch from a shorter loop H12-72 every 6 hours (default) to a big H12-180 every 12 hours January-24-2007January-24-2007Since 23-Jan-2007 NOAA is updating its ftp site with reports every minute. Prior to that date, it was about five minutes. As a result we also update our database more often and the delay has been reduced January-21-2007Added new page to select latest TAF reports in a country. You can check it here. As a collateral effect when writing the code, we discovered that some TAF reports were in METAR database tables. We've fixed this January-5-2007Maximum age of Metar and Taf reports in database has been increased from 150 to 180 days. January-4-2007Temporal interruption from 20:11 to 20:41 UTC to add a new memory module into the server. RAM memory changed from 1.5 to 2.0 GB December-28-2006From 10:53 to 14:00 Ogimet has been disconnected to update the Operative System. OS upgrade from openSUSE 10.1 to openSUSE 10.2. No problems at all. December-25-2006Still problems with ADSL/telephone line. GFS 00 UTC run has not been plotted. Line stuff is resvolved before 1 p.m. Hope now is definitive. December-24-2006We have problems with our ADSL line. It is due to our ISP Telefonica. Even we have not telephone line. It has been resolved temporary in the morning. GFS 2006/12/24 00 UTC run has not been plotted, we could not get any grib field December-05-2006We are suffering temporal interruptions in the Internet connection to NOAA. As most of data used in Ogimet are from this center, some of data and plots are delayed. Sorry by this inconvenient not caused by any problem at this site. We also would like to thank NOAA again by all the data it make accesible to the comunity. Many of weather sites around the world wouldn't be possible without the data available at NOAA, including Ogimet. We hope the problems will be fixed soon November-12-2006Tables in Ogimet mysql database have a limited size of 4.2 GB. The size of main synop table reached this size some weeks ago and we have to delete old synops from this table. We've created a new database schema so old synops are placed in per_year tables. There is now the table 'synops_2005', and then again we have synops reports online from Jan-01-2005. November-05-2006At October 28, 07:20 UTC, the power supply inside ogimet server had a severe failure and also damaged its motherboard. So Ogimet went offline till today when I've been able to restore all the services. No observation data has lost because I also download it in a independent system (precisely to avoid the effects of this crashes) The nice side of the incident is now Ogimet runs in a very improved system. The processor is now an AMD Athlon64 Dual Core 4200+ (it was an Athlon 2500+), RAM memory has increased from 1.0 GB to 1.5 GB, and main Hard disks are now SATA 2 instead of IDE. Most of heavy tasks in the server, as the plots of GFS maps, now runs three time faster! October-25-2006It almost two year ago Ogimet began, since January 1 2005. Since then, step by step, we have been improving and extending their services. Sometimes we have changed big chunks of code and added services without a notification in our pages. We think it is now the time to write a small log with all the interesting things or news for Ogimet users |
